This is the process of changing the surface of paper from flat to shaped. Embossing imparts a raised effect to the paper and debossing imparts a depressed effect to the paper. Embossing can be done without any color, it can be registered with the printing to give the printing a raised effect or it can be foil embossed which is embossing with standard colors of foil.
Embossing requires a metal die made from an .eps file. Embossing can be done with brass or copper dies. Single level embossing dies are made from copper.
Multi level embossing and foil embossing dies are from brass. Brass dies are the most durable and longest lasting but are also more expensive than copper.
In foil stamping, the die comes in contact with the foil and transfers a thin layer of the foil film onto the surface. As the metal plate is heated, the foil sticks to the surface only in the design of the plate and in the required areas with the design of the imprint.
